What is Aromatherapy?

 

Aromatherapy also referred to as Essential Oil therapy. This new exciting way to use natural oils extracted from plants like flowers, stems,  herbs, roots, or other plant parts is used to enhance the physical well being. Some of these plants include Herbs like rosemary, thyme, oregano or peppermint,  eucalyptus plants leaves,  lemongrass, fennel seeds,  oranges, grapefruit or lemon,  bark from trees including cedar or pine or many more are all popular plants used to product essential oils.

When this aroma is inhaled it's believed to stimulate the body and brain. Aromatherapy can be used in many ways to promote body healing. Alternative  therapeutic treatments are now offered in practices, massage centers, and spas, even chiropractic offices.


Some ways Aromatherapy can be used
  • Aerial diffusion: Fragrance for environment or aerial disinfection
  • Direct inhalation: for respiratory disinfection, decongestant, as well as psychological effects
  • General applications:
  • Soaking in an oil-infused bath, Massage, compresses, therapeutic skin care.
 There is many different types of aroma's with each doing something different. Some may promote pain relief while others may enhance moods. Before investing in any type of aromatherapy oils please make sure you do your research as this blog is for information purpose only.  There is a wide number of essential oils available. Some maybe stronger then others. Some oils are fragrance only oils that do not provide any stimulation so do your research on what oils you want to use. 
An aromatherapist, who specializes in the aromatherapy practice may help you find blends that are therapeutic. Some applications may include massage, or inhalation. Its important to understand it might help improve your well being but there is no medical evidence that it can cure any disease.


Type of materials
  • Essential Oils - Extracted from plants fragrant oils.
  • Carrier Oils - Diluted oils used for the skin.
  • Aroma Diffusers - Devices that distributes essential oils, usually mixed with water.
  • Absolutes - Extracted from primarily flowers for fragrant oils.
  • Vaporizers - Usually contain higher oil content from dried or crushed extracts of plant materials for inhalation.
